SMU Dedman School of Law Externships

SMU Dedman School of Law Externships
SMU Dedman School of Law Externships provide experience outside the classroom for law students currently attending the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Dallas, Texas.

Eligible students must have completed 30 hours of course work before applying and also be in good academic standing. The externships are unpaid; students may receive one credit for every 60 hours worked per semester. Although students may apply for more than one externship, they may only receive credit for one.

Applicants must have faculty approval to apply for an externship. Throughout the externship, they will be supervised by an attorney who will oversee their work, provide feedback and evaluate their progress. Externs must also submit a research paper on their educational experience.

The purpose of the externships is to give law students an experiential learning opportunity in the field of law. Many placements are available in a legal environment where students will be able to observe, ask questions, and participate in an area of legal practice of interest to them. The experience will help them define their career goals in the field of law.

The location is usually in TEXAS.
