Cook Children's Nursing Externship Program is a 10-week work experience program for nursing students pursuing careers in pediatrics. The externship includes clinical experience and classroom activities that will increase both knowledge and skills in nursing.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BSN program. A grade point average of 3.0 or above is required; students also must have completed two clinical courses before applying. Externships take place during the summer from the middle of May through the end of June.

To apply, students may complete an online application and submit it along with transcripts, an essay and two letters of recommendation. Candidates selected will be invited for interviews at the beginning of March, and candidates will be notified by the end of March if they are chosen for an internship position.

Internships take place at Cook Children's Health Care System in Fort Worth, Texas, a non-profit health care organization specializing in pediatric services. The health care organization began in 1918 and is dedicated to providing health care for children that includes prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury.
