Gwinnett Medical Center Nurse Extern Program is available to nursing students enrolled in an accredited nursing program. Candidates must be in good academic standing and be in their last year of nursing school.

Externs will gain valuable clinical knowledge and skills through the summer externship and receive experience in Oncology, Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Orthopedic/Surgical Specialties, Emergency Services, Neuroscience and Spine, ICU, Labor & Delivery, Mother/Infant, NICU, High Risk Pregnancy Unit, Surgical Services, and Nursing Imaging.

The externship offers nursing students an opportunity to prepare for a career in nursing. Externships are offered at all three Gwinnet Medical Center locations.

Gwinnett Medical Center is a 553-bed, not-for-profit health care network that provides many high-quality services at their facilities in Lawrenceville, Duluth, Hamilton Mill, Johns Creek and the metro Atlanta area. They are ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for clinical quality.

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

As investors, venture capitalists (VCs) are investing in new ideas, innovations, and most importantly teams, where do they begin? This is called deal sourcing. Externs will profile startup companies, learn what VCs look for, and be a part of investing in the next generation of technology. HP Tech Ventures is seeking ambitious students to help research relevant pre-seed stage startups for deal sourcing and evaluation. This project includes special data analytics projects that allow students to practice using analysis tools to perform business model, strategy, and value chain analysis. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths.
