Externs will receive hands-on experience in preparing and maintaining instruments, equipment, and materials for dental procedures. They will assist in dental procedures and be supervised by experienced dentists and hygienists. The experience will help students prepare for a career in dental assistance and gain valuable skills that will be required for licensing.
The program was designed to help law students be more competitive when looking for a job after graduation. The experience will give them a greater advantage with future employers and also increase their opportunities with their favorite law firms.

Eligible fields of study include nursing, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, psychology, optometry, physical therapy, medical technology and social work. Eligibility includes students who are recipients of scholarships in the health profession, American Indian or Alaska Native students studying in the health field, or Non-American Indian/Alaska Native students in a health profession.
Veterinary students interested in gaining first-hand experience in shelter medicine are encouraged to apply. By observing experienced shelter veterinarians, students will gain valuable clinical experience and exposure to career options in shelter veterinarian medical practice.
