Eligible fields of study include nursing, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, psychology, optometry, physical therapy, medical technology and social work. Eligibility includes students who are recipients of scholarships in the health profession, American Indian or Alaska Native students studying in the health field, or Non-American Indian/Alaska Native students in a health profession.
Veterinary students interested in gaining first-hand experience in shelter medicine are encouraged to apply. By observing experienced shelter veterinarians, students will gain valuable clinical experience and exposure to career options in shelter veterinarian medical practice.
To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship places nursing students in real work environments where they can apply their classroom learning in a hospital setting working with real patients.
