Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program, providing hands-on emergency medicine experience. Externs work alongside credentialed veterinary nurses, focusing on vital emergency skills like triage and patient care. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in an AVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing program and require externship hours. The program offers flexible duration, location choice, and dedicated mentorship. Rabies vaccination is mandatory, except for students exempt under their school's rabies mitigation policy.

The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech.
