 University of Michigan Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship
University of Michigan Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship is offered to dental students who are pursuing careers in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The externship will expose students to various career options in the dentistry field.

Students applying for the program must be in good academic standing. They must also have completed courses that have taught them basic oral and maxillofacial surgery. They must know how to administer local anesthesia and perform dental surgery of the teeth, soft tissue, and the jawbone, such as teeth extraction.

The externship is from one to four weeks. During this time, externs will attend clinics, assist with daily rounds, and assist with operating room and trauma cases. The externship will allow students to view residency life on a day-to-day basis.

Why not apply for an externship and internship?

Externships are offered throughout the year at the University of Michigan Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Only one extern per week is chosen to participate.
