Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program for students enrolled in AVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing programs. Students gain hands-on experience in emergency medicine, focusing on skills like patient care, laboratory processing, and triage. The program emphasizes a customer-first mentality and a supportive work environment, with flexibility in externship length and location, and mentorship provided by credentialed veterinary technicians. Rabies vaccination is required, unless exempted by the school's policy.

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations.
