Aiken Regional Medical Centers offers a Nurse Externship Program for graduating seniors in nursing school, providing valuable skills and preceptorships. Participants commit to working at ARMC for two years post-graduation and receive a paid stipend. The length of the externship varies. Students who are entering their senior year of nursing school may apply. The internship is paid; housing is not included. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. As Associate Consultants and Senior Associate Consultants, team members have an opportunity to broaden their consulting knowledge at consumer product companies, international think tanks, nonprofit charter schools, startup companies, and others. Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

Cook Children's Nursing Externship Program is a 10-week work experience program for nursing students pursuing careers in pediatrics. The externship includes clinical experience and classroom activities that will increase both knowledge and skills in nursing. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BSN program. A grade point average of 3.0 or above is required; students also must have completed two clinical courses before applying. Externships take place during the summer from the middle of May through the end of June.

Summer Student Nurse Tech Program is open to nursing students throughout the U.S. The paid work experience program takes place during the summer and gives nursing students an opportunity to gain skills that will be valuable to their nursing career. The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech. Every year about 50 nursing students from around the country are accepted into the program which includes educational sessions from all areas of specialty.
