Mayo Clinic Externships

Mayo Clinic Externships are available to current college students as well as recent graduates who want an opportunity to gain more experience in a health care environment. Externships are offered within several different disciplines. Whether students are looking for experience in the field of medicine, providing software and technology support, or developing health and other programs for the clinic, they are sure to find an experience that will enrich their classroom learning.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

Overview This experiential learning program has been designed by Paragon One in collaboration with Credera to offer talented students an opportunity to develop and showcase their creative problem solving and critical thinking skills by working on real work projects. UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Applicants can choose two specialty areas for their externship. The externship is designed to help nursing students choose a career path in nursing.

Bain & Company offers students who have graduated from college a unique career in corporate strategy consulting. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. As Associate Consultants and Senior Associate Consultants, team members have an opportunity to broaden their consulting knowledge at consumer product companies, international think tanks, nonprofit charter schools, startup companies, and others. Following a six-month externship, consultants return to Bain with increased skills as a consultant and enhanced knowledge of other industries.

Fried Frank Externships are designed to give work experience to mid-level, third-year, or recent law school graduates. The externships give law students practice in litigation as well as experience in public service. Externs may work on behalf of the NAACP for the defense of African-Americans and other minority groups. They may provide litigation services for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund on behalf of Latinos.

U.S. Department of the Interior Legal Externship Program offers law school students an opportunity to receive practical experience in the field of law while continuing their education. Programs are offered in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Externs may participate in civil litigation, conduct legal research, assist the Justice Department with legal work, draft legal briefs and motions, and assist with federal legal cases. Applicants must be currently attending a U.S. accredited law school, be in good standing, and have excellent legal research and writing skills.

Overview Freshwater is vital for life on Earth, for people, species, and places across the natural world. Yet, in many places around the globe, our management of freshwater resources is becoming unsustainable. Understanding the interconnectedness and complexity of local and regional freshwater issues is critical to living sustainably on Earth. In this remote Externship, externs will translate global freshwater conservation issues into a local context, make them relevant and accessible to their communities, and offer solutions to local or regional problems. Overview This is an exciting externship where students can experience first-hand what it feels like to be part of a Fortune 100 company. As investors, venture capitalists (VCs) are investing in new ideas, innovations, and most importantly teams, where do they begin? This is called deal sourcing. Externs will profile startup companies, learn what VCs look for, and be a part of investing in the next generation of technology. HP Tech Ventures is seeking ambitious students to help research relevant pre-seed stage startups for deal sourcing and evaluation. This project includes special data analytics projects that allow students to practice using analysis tools to perform business model, strategy, and value chain analysis.
