United Veterinary Care offers externships for veterinary students, particularly in their 3rd or 4th year from AVMA-accredited schools, at various partner hospitals including East El Paso Animal Hospital. These externships are hands-on, with opportunities to work on diverse cases involving ultrasound, dentistry, and surgery, including orthopedic procedures. Externs receive stipends to assist with travel and lodging costs and are expected to actively participate in cases under the supervision of experienced veterinarians. The program emphasizes real-world experience, encouraging externs to engage in surgical cases, medical appointments, and case discussions, and to share their learnings with the team. Eligibility includes proof of professional liability insurance, with priority given to those in official externship blocks for school credit.
