Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers a Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program for students enrolled in AVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing programs. The program provides hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine, including patient care, lab work, and triage in a fast-paced environment. Externs receive mentorship from credentialed veterinary technicians and can customize the length and location of their externship. Rabies vaccination is required, with exceptions based on school policy. This externship is unpaid and is specifically for veterinary technology/nursing students, not veterinary or assistant students.

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.
