Cleveland Clinic offers a Flex Nurse Associate Externship for RN students graduating in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025. The program runs for ten weeks, including orientation and a celebration workshop. Participants assist RNs with patient care, perform basic tasks, and may qualify for roles like PCNA or Nurse Tech upon completion. Applicants must be enrolled in accredited nursing programs with specific requirements for BLS certification and physical capabilities. Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

The externship is unpaid. The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer. Up to 35 qualified students will be hired. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and be in their senior year of nursing school.
