Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program across the United States, providing hands-on emergency medicine experience to enrolled AVMA-accredited vet tech/nursing students. With a focus on fostering a customer-first mentality and employee-centric work environment, VEG aims to revolutionize emergency medicine. The program offers flexibility in externship length and location, emphasizing mentorship and full immersion in emergency medicine skills. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited program, with rabies vaccination required unless exempted by their school's policy, and externships must begin within six months of application.

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.
