NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. University of Michigan Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship is offered to dental students who are pursuing careers in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The externship will expose students to various career options in the dentistry field. Students applying for the program must be in good academic standing. They must also have completed courses that have taught them basic oral and maxillofacial surgery. They must know how to administer local anesthesia and perform dental surgery of the teeth, soft tissue, and the jawbone, such as teeth extraction.

Bain & Company offers students who have graduated from college a unique career in corporate strategy consulting. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. As Associate Consultants and Senior Associate Consultants, team members have an opportunity to broaden their consulting knowledge at consumer product companies, international think tanks, nonprofit charter schools, startup companies, and others. Following a six-month externship, consultants return to Bain with increased skills as a consultant and enhanced knowledge of other industries.

American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Externships are designed to provide a 2-3 week work experience in laboratory animal medicine for veterinary medicine students. The externships are offered at several different host locations. Students may choose an externship at a university such as Johns Hopkins or Ohio State University, or they can complete their externship at a medical facility such as Mayo Clinic in Arizona. Each externship will provide a placement that will match students' interests and career goals.

St. John Medical Center Nurse Externship Program is for nursing students who are just two semesters away from graduation. Senior-level nursing students may apply. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship places nursing students in real work environments where they can apply their classroom learning in a hospital setting working with real patients.
