Cleveland Clinic offers a Flex Nurse Associate Externship for RN students graduating Fall 2024 or Spring 2025, involving a 10-week program with flexible shifts and training sessions. Participants assist RNs in patient care activities, maintain clean patient rooms, and report any changes in patient conditions. Requirements include enrollment in an accredited nursing program, Basic Life Support certification, and the ability to perform basic mathematics. Physical demands include lifting patients and extensive standing, with personal protective equipment provided. Successful completion may lead to potential roles within the clinic.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer.
