Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid externship for veterinary technology/nursing students seeking hands-on emergency medicine experience. The program, available at various locations across the US, focuses on honing skills such as patient care, triaging, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. Students receive mentorship from credentialed veterinary technicians (VEG Veterinary Nurses) and must be enrolled in an AVMA accredited program, vaccinated for rabies, and ready to start within six months of application.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. St. John Medical Center Nurse Externship Program is for nursing students who are just two semesters away from graduation. Senior-level nursing students may apply. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship will expose students to various career options in the dentistry field. Students applying for the program must be in good academic standing. They must also have completed courses that have taught them basic oral and maxillofacial surgery. They must know how to administer local anesthesia and perform dental surgery of the teeth, soft tissue, and the jawbone, such as teeth extraction.
