Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers a Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program aimed at providing hands-on emergency medicine experience. The program, open to students enrolled in AVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing programs, focuses on honing skills in patient care, triaging, and collaborating in a fast-paced environment. This unpaid externship offers flexibility in duration and location selection, with mentorship provided by credentialed veterinary technicians. Applicants must have rabies vaccinations or adhere to their school's rabies mitigation policy.

The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations.
