Santa Clara Law Externships

Santa Clara Law Externships
Law students at Santa Clara University School of Law have an opportunity to practice their trade while still in college through the Santa Clara Law Externships. Externships take classroom knowledge outside school and into the field where students can increase their learning.

Students may choose field placements in several areas, including criminal law, domestic law, civil practice, and more. There is also the Panetta Fellowship program where students work in Monterey, California, at the Leon and Sylvia Panetta Institute. Here they will be exposed to law and government, political science, or public policy.

Externships are offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer. The externships are unpaid but students may earn college credit for completing an externship. Credits range from 5 to 11 credits, depending on the numbers of hours worked. They may choose placements with law firms, in-house corporate counsel, government agencies, courts or non-profit organizations.

Law students must have completed their first year of law school in order to be eligible to apply for an externship. They must also be in good academic standing. A prerequisite course and a seminar are required.

The location is usually in CALIFORNIA.
