University of California at Berkeley Externship Program
An externship program offers students at the University of California a chance to shadow a professional in their field of study and test drive their career. They are short in duration and give students an inside view of their career field.
Freshman and sophomores at the University of California may apply for externships. Most of the externships are in northern and southern California. There are also some located in New York, Washington D.C. and overseas. They take place during the winter break. Students may apply for up to three externships. If chosen, they must commit to fulfilling the schedule, which generally lasts two weeks.
Students may begin applying in mid-October for externships and will be notified and placed in a position by November or December. Depending on their major, students may be chosen for an externship with a public defender, TV producer, doctor, architect, engineer, teacher, CEO, social worker, writer, scientist, consultant, attorney, IT analyst, professor, youth center director, financial advisor, and more.
The externship program is sponsored by University of California alumni and parents. Students are responsible for all expenses related to the externship, including travel, housing and meals. Students receiving Pell grants and students with disabilities may be eligible for travel reimbursement upon completion of the externship.
The location is usually in CALIFORNIA.
