University of Maine School of Law Externships

University of Maine School of Law Externships
University of Maine School of Law Externships are for second- and third-year law students at the University of Maine School of Law. Externships give students insight into various facets of actual law practice.

Externships are unpaid but students may earn up to six credit hours for participation. Through placement within various legal settings, students may observe how law is practiced. This will help increase their skills and prepare them for a career in law. Students are mentored by experienced professionals who give them valuable feedback on their work. They also receive guidance from faculty members.

Most externs work approximately 18 hours per week in placements which may include the Maine Attorney General's Office, U.S. Attorney, University Counsel of the University of Maine System, Worker's Compensation Board, and many others.

Positions can be within private legal practices, non-profit organizations, government offices or legal departments. Some of the internship positions may have pre-requisite course work as a requirement.

The location is usually in MAINE.
