University of Pennsylvania Law School Externship Program
Students at the University of Pennsylvania Law School have an opportunity to gain real-life law experience and get college credit at the same time by applying for an externship program. The program assigns students to work in organizations and government offices to apply their classroom learning in the field of law.
Externships are offered to second- and third-year law students at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Externships last one semester. Students may work at a government office, non-profit organization or legal firm. The program supplements classroom learning by giving students real experience in the field of law. The program is designed to help students advance their career goals and develop professional values that will prepare them for a career in law.
Each student will be assigned a supervisor who will give them valuable feedback throughout their externship. Externship placements may include offices surrounding Pennsylvania, New York and Washington, D.C. If students cannot find the opportunity they are looking for, they are invited to create their own externship and submit it for approval.
Credits received for completing an externship can be either four or seven credits.
The location is usually in PENNSYLVANIA.
