Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Externships

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Externships
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Externships are available to third- and fourth-year medical students. The externship program gives medical students an opportunity to take their elective courses at other medical institutions, or at a hospital located outside the U.S. Externships are an excellent way for students to apply their classroom knowledge in a hands-on medical setting.

Eligible students at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School must apply for an externship through The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). One they apply for a position, they must notify the NJMS Registrar’s Office at least four weeks prior to the date the externship begins. The Registrar will have forms available for completion and approval by department chairs.

Once students have approval, they can send in their externship application and notify the Registrar's office when they have been accepted into the program by the hosting organization.

Each externship has its own requirements. Students must be sure they meet all the pre-requisites before applying. In addition, the externships, particularly international, must coincide with the student's schedule at Rutgers.

The location VARIES.
