U.S. Externships in Research and Laboratory Animal Medicine - SAVMA IVSA
Students interested in a career in laboratory animal medicine may apply. They must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited veterinary school. The externship program is in association with the SAVMA Chapter of the International Veterinary Student Association offering externship opportunities for veterinary students.
Many externships are available in the area of primates. The externships range from 2-4 weeks up to 10 weeks. They include clinical and research experience working with seasoned veterinarians. Participating organizations include the Johns Hopkins University, California National Primate Research Center, Washington National Primate Research Center, and others.
Some positions include funding and others do not. Some will also provide housing. Each position will focus on a different area of primate species and some will include behavioral and surgical activities.
