U.S. Department of Labor Civil Rights Center Externship Opportunities

U.S. Department of Labor
U.S. Department of Labor Civil Rights Center Externship Opportunities are available for law students interested in civil rights. This externship is an unpaid work experience for law students who want to ensure equal opportunity for others.

Externs will work with the Civil Rights Center to provide nondiscriminatory opportunities for current employees as well as those who apply for positions with the U.S. Department of Labor. Students applying for externships may volunteer their skills and service in the areas of external enforcement, internal enforcement or compliance assistance and planning.

The work of externs will involve processing complaints, conducting compliance reviews, legal research on employment-related issues, and helping to process the decisions made regarding complaints of discrimination. Students eligible for externships must be in their second or third year of law school with an interest in civil rights or labor law. Externships are offered in the Spring and Summer.

Why not apply for an externship and internship?

Students may apply directly to the Department of Labor by submitting an application, cover letter, resume and writing sample. They should include their qualifications for the externship and their interest in the area of civil rights and labor law.

The location is usually in DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
