Animal Medical Center Externships and Jobs
Animal Medical Center Externships are available to veterinary students who are in their third or fourth year of veterinary school. Eligible students must be in good academic standing at an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Medicine.

The externship is a shadowing or observational opportunity for students to learn about veterinary hospital care policies and procedures. The externship includes lectures, medical rounds and continuing education seminars. Externs will also be able to see experienced veterinarians at work in delivering veterinary services such as critical care and emergency, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, pathology, rehabilitation and surgery.

Externships are up to four weeks long and offer opportunities for students to interact with clinicians, interns, residents and technicians. Externships take place at the Animal Medical Center in New York.

The Animal Medical Center is a leading veterinary medicine teaching facility and a leading animal care provider since 1910. They provide comprehensive animal care as well as research to advance medical practices and treatments.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. Training external to the classroom is available through the unpaid externship program that allows students to work in various work environments. Students accepted into the externship program may choose to work for the federal government, on the Hill, in judicial chambers, or in local or national non-profit agencies.
