Rex Healthcare Nursing Externships are available to nursing students who are entering their senior year of nursing school. All applicants must have a Nurse Aide II certification before beginning their externship.

The externship is a 10-week work program that gives nursing students practical experience in a hospital environment. Externs will receive general, clinical, computer and new nurse orientation followed by work shadowing and other opportunities that will enhance their classroom learning and teach them valuable new skills.

Students should have strong academic records; a grade point average of 2.75 is preferred. Externship opportunities are available in the areas of emergency, intermediate, medical, surgical, women's and children's nursing care services.

Rex Healthcare is a non-profit healthcare system located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The hospital provides health and wellness services for patients throughout the Raleigh and surrounding area, plus specialty centers for cancer, surgery, heart and other health areas. The healthcare facility was recognized by Becker's Hospital Review as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the U.S. in 2012 and 2013.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

Mayo Clinic Externships are available to current college students as well as recent graduates who want an opportunity to gain more experience in a health care environment. Externships are offered within several different disciplines. Whether students are looking for experience in the field of medicine, providing software and technology support, or developing health and other programs for the clinic, they are sure to find an experience that will enrich their classroom learning.

Bain & Company offers students who have graduated from college a unique career in corporate strategy consulting. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. As Associate Consultants and Senior Associate Consultants, team members have an opportunity to broaden their consulting knowledge at consumer product companies, international think tanks, nonprofit charter schools, startup companies, and others. Following a six-month externship, consultants return to Bain with increased skills as a consultant and enhanced knowledge of other industries.

St. Jude’s Nurse Extern Program is designed to give nursing students work experience in pediatric oncology nursing. Nursing school students who are within 12 months of graduation may apply. The length of the externship varies. Students who are entering their senior year of nursing school may apply. The internship is paid; housing is not included. Applications are available every year in the months of March, April, October and November.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Applicants can choose two specialty areas for their externship. The externship is designed to help nursing students choose a career path in nursing.

Penn State Hershey Student Nurse Externships are ten-week programs for nursing students entering their senior year. The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer. Up to 35 qualified students will be hired. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and be in their senior year of nursing school. The externships are full-time and provide nursing experience in the areas of Patient Care Assistant and Patient Sitter.

Corporate VC & Business Analytics Remote Externship

Overview This is an exciting externship where students can experience first-hand what it feels like to be part of a Fortune 100 company. As investors, venture capitalists (VCs) are investing in new ideas, innovations, and most importantly teams, where do they begin? This is called deal sourcing. Externs will profile startup companies, learn what VCs look for, and be a part of investing in the next generation of technology. HP Tech Ventures is seeking ambitious students to help research relevant pre-seed stage startups for deal sourcing and evaluation. This project includes special data analytics projects that allow students to practice using analysis tools to perform business model, strategy, and value chain analysis. St. John Medical Center Nurse Externship Program is for nursing students who are just two semesters away from graduation. Senior-level nursing students may apply. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship places nursing students in real work environments where they can apply their classroom learning in a hospital setting working with real patients.
