Friendship Hospital Veterinary Externship is an opportunity for veterinary students to learn more about their field in a high-quality clinic. The rotating externship provides observational opportunities in Primary Care, Urgent Care and Specialty Services.

Externs shadow specialists in various departments, such as Neurology, Specialty Surgery, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Anesthesia and others. Although no direct patient care is included, externs will learn much by shadowing specialists.

Externships last 1-3 weeks; housing is not provided. The externship offers a flexible schedule for veterinary students. Preference is given to third and fourth year students. The schedule can include weekdays and some evening shifts in Urgent Care.

Friendship Hospital for Animals was established in 1936 in Washington, D.C. The hospital provides primary, emergency and specialty care to more than 60,000 dogs and cats each year throughout the D.C. area. They are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

Cornell Extern Program is open to college sophomores, juniors, and seniors from all undergraduate colleges. It's an opportunity for students to explore their career options while still in college. Winter externships are offered during January and February. Externships can last from one day to one week.
