Good Shepherd Student Nurse Extern Program is for students currently attending an accredited nursing school. Applicants should have completed 1-2 clinical semesters before applying.

The extern program offers competitive pay and an opportunity for nursing students to get hands-on experience with a healthcare team under the direct supervision of registered nurses. Externs receive training in nursing competencies, healthcare computer training, and documentation training.

Externs also have the opportunity for employment as a graduate nurse. The extern program is designed to combine the nurse extern program with the graduate nurse residency program in order to prepare student nurses for full-time employment after graduation.

Good Shepherd Health System is a health, wellness and state-of-the-art healthcare facility located in East Texas. The healthcare system includes three medical centers, more than 30 provider office locations, emergency services, urgent care centers, a full range of outpatient services and a state-of-the-art Institute for Healthy Living.
