State of Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County Judicial Externship offers experiential work externships to law students in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Students who have completed the first year of law school and are in good academic standing may apply.

Judicial externships are 6-12 weeks during the summer; length may vary for Spring and Fall. Externs work in a judge's chambers and receive either school credit, a stipend from an outside agency or to gain experience working in the court system.

Externs will be given the opportunity to do legal research, prepare memoranda, and work with staff attorneys or directly and solely with a judge. To apply, students may mail, fax, email or hand deliver a cover letter, resume and a writing sample.

Judicial externships are offered by The Office of the Chief Judge, State of Illinois, Circuit Court of Cook County. Judicial externships offer law students an off-campus academic opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of the state court system.
