Brigham and Women’s Hospital Dentistry Observership is open to students enrolled in a dental school program, and resident or fellow in an oral medicine program or residency with heavy focus on oral medicine.

The purpose of the program is to provide educational experiences in a closely supervised, safe environment. The observership is 1-2 weeks in length.

Observers accepted into the externship program will be able to observe, but not perform, physical examinations, treatments or diagnoses. They will participate in activities such as clinical tutorials, ward rounds and clinic visits, and observe procedures and operations under supervision. Observers will receive a certificate of completion after the completion of their observership.

To apply for an externship, students must submit an application, registration, 3 letters of support. The Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) provides oral medicine and dental services for medically complex patients. The division's leading oral medicine residency program has a highly successful track record of training future leaders in the field of oral medicine. They are located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mayo Clinic Externships

Mayo Clinic Externships are available to current college students as well as recent graduates who want an opportunity to gain more experience in a health care environment. Externships are offered within several different disciplines. Whether students are looking for experience in the field of medicine, providing software and technology support, or developing health and other programs for the clinic, they are sure to find an experience that will enrich their classroom learning.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Applicants can choose two specialty areas for their externship. The externship is designed to help nursing students choose a career path in nursing.

Externs will profile startup companies, learn what VCs look for, and be a part of investing in the next generation of technology. HP Tech Ventures is seeking ambitious students to help research relevant pre-seed stage startups for deal sourcing and evaluation. This project includes special data analytics projects that allow students to practice using analysis tools to perform business model, strategy, and value chain analysis. Penn State Hershey Student Nurse Externships are ten-week programs for nursing students entering their senior year. The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer. Up to 35 qualified students will be hired. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and be in their senior year of nursing school. The externships are full-time and provide nursing experience in the areas of Patient Care Assistant and Patient Sitter.

St. John Medical Center Nurse Externship Program is for nursing students who are just two semesters away from graduation. Senior-level nursing students may apply. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship places nursing students in real work environments where they can apply their classroom learning in a hospital setting working with real patients.
