The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech. The externship is unpaid. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations.
