Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG), expanding in the U.S., offers an externship for veterinary technician/nursing students in emergency medicine. The program includes hands-on experience with emergency veterinary technicians, focusing on patient care, lab work, triaging, and collaboration. VEG prioritizes a customer-first, employee-centric culture, proven by its high NPS score and nomination for INC Magazine's Best Places to Work. Externs have flexibility in duration and location of their experience, under the mentorship of credentialed veterinary technicians. Candidates must be enrolled in an AVMA accredited program and meet rabies vaccination requirements.

Summer Student Nurse Tech Program is open to nursing students throughout the U.S. The paid work experience program takes place during the summer and gives nursing students an opportunity to gain skills that will be valuable to their nursing career. The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech. Every year about 50 nursing students from around the country are accepted into the program which includes educational sessions from all areas of specialty.

The externship is unpaid. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.
