Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program for AVMA-accredited veterinary technology/nursing students seeking hands-on emergency medicine experience. With a focus on employee and customer satisfaction, VEG provides mentorship, flexibility in externship length and location, and immersion in emergency medicine skills such as patient care and triage. Applicants must be rabies vaccinated or compliant with school rabies mitigation policies, enrolled in accredited programs, and ready to begin externships within six months.

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations.
