Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) offers an unpaid externship program for veterinary technician/nursing students seeking hands-on emergency medicine experience. The program focuses on honing skills such as patient care, laboratory processing, and triage in a customer-centric and employee-valued environment. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited program, have rabies vaccination, and start the externship within six months of application. Flexibility in duration and location is provided, with mentorship from experienced veterinary technicians (VEG Veterinary Nurses).

It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations.
