Kaplan College Dallas currently has four externship opportunities for students in the area of Physical Therapy. Each of the four externships are designed to provide students with practical on-the-job clinical experience that will give them an opportunity to use their classroom knowledge in a real, professional environment.

Externships vary in levels and include Assistant Clinical I, II and III, and Assistant Final Clinical Practicum. Assistant Clinical I, II and III require students to complete a 90-hour clinical at an affiliate site that provides physical therapy services. Assistant Final Clinical Practicum requires a 360-hour clinical.

Clinical experience through externships gives students both interaction with professionals in the field of physical therapy and hands-on experience. This helps students prepare for careers in physical therapy following graduation.

Kaplan's physical therapy program is approved by The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), an accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Kaplan College offers accelerated programs in several states with flexible schedules and professional instruction to help students learn the skills needed for specific career areas.

Mayo Clinic Externships

Mayo Clinic Externships are available to current college students as well as recent graduates who want an opportunity to gain more experience in a health care environment. Externships are offered within several different disciplines. Whether students are looking for experience in the field of medicine, providing software and technology support, or developing health and other programs for the clinic, they are sure to find an experience that will enrich their classroom learning.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

Corporate VC & Business Analytics Remote Externship

Overview This is an exciting externship where students can experience first-hand what it feels like to be part of a Fortune 100 company. As investors, venture capitalists (VCs) are investing in new ideas, innovations, and most importantly teams, where do they begin? This is called deal sourcing. Externs will profile startup companies, learn what VCs look for, and be a part of investing in the next generation of technology. HP Tech Ventures is seeking ambitious students to help research relevant pre-seed stage startups for deal sourcing and evaluation. This project includes special data analytics projects that allow students to practice using analysis tools to perform business model, strategy, and value chain analysis. Overview This experiential learning program has been designed by Paragon One in collaboration with Credera to offer talented students an opportunity to develop and showcase their creative problem solving and critical thinking skills by working on real work projects. Bain & Company offers students who have graduated from college a unique career in corporate strategy consulting. Students who join the Bain team are offered externship positions that allow them to jump start their career through six-month working assignments at other companies where they can pursue different career paths. As Associate Consultants and Senior Associate Consultants, team members have an opportunity to broaden their consulting knowledge at consumer product companies, international think tanks, nonprofit charter schools, startup companies, and others. Following a six-month externship, consultants return to Bain with increased skills as a consultant and enhanced knowledge of other industries.

St. John Medical Center Nurse Externship Program is for nursing students who are just two semesters away from graduation. Senior-level nursing students may apply. To be eligible, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must also be able to work the required number of hours during the semester. The externship places nursing students in real work environments where they can apply their classroom learning in a hospital setting working with real patients.

Christiana Care Health System Student Nurse Externships are offered to students enrolled in a nursing program and pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse. Students interested in applying must have completed at least one clinical rotation in an acute care setting. Student Nurse Externs work 16 hours bi-weekly and must also be available to work different shifts, holidays and weekends if necessary. The work environment is casual and the work schedules are flexible so students can continue uninterrupted with their studies.

Cornell Extern Program is open to college sophomores, juniors, and seniors from all undergraduate colleges. It's an opportunity for students to explore their career options while still in college. Winter externships are offered during January and February. Externships can last from one day to one week. Eligible students will find externships available in numerous career fields and geographic locations around the world. The externships do no include pay or college credit. Students will be responsible for all expenses, including travel and housing.

U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa Japan Externship Program is offered to selected medical students and graduates of Japanese medical schools. The purpose of the externship program is to provide exposure to western-style medicine. Externships are available in various medical/surgical specialties, including Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Urology, and Radiology.
