Nurse Externship Program - Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia

The Nurse Externship Program is an 8-week summer opportunity for senior BSN students with medical-surgical clinical experience. This program, based in Medical Oncology & Surgical Oncology, offers hands-on nursing practice under registered nurse supervision, along with didactic educational sessions and a patient education project. Requirements include a high school diploma, completion of one med/surgical clinical rotation, and BLS certification. Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Applicants can choose two specialty areas for their externship. The externship is designed to help nursing students choose a career path in nursing.

Winter externships are offered during January and February. Externships can last from one day to one week. The externship will expose students to various career options in the dentistry field. Students applying for the program must be in good academic standing. They must also have completed courses that have taught them basic oral and maxillofacial surgery. They must know how to administer local anesthesia and perform dental surgery of the teeth, soft tissue, and the jawbone, such as teeth extraction.

Penn State Hershey Student Nurse Externships are ten-week programs for nursing students entering their senior year. The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer. Up to 35 qualified students will be hired. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and be in their senior year of nursing school. The externships are full-time and provide nursing experience in the areas of Patient Care Assistant and Patient Sitter.
