University of San Diego School of Law Agency Externship Program
University of San Diego School of Law Agency Externship Program is available to law students who want to gain law-related experience while still in college. The externship is offered during the summer and is for credit only.

Students may choose a number of externships outside southern California. Externships are available throughout the U.S. and international in government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Each extern will be supervised throughout the externship by an attorney at the sponsoring location.

The externship program provides on-site work experience, classroom instruction and discussions, and a writing assignment that documents the student's experience. A final paper will be required at the completion of the program. Students will experience many facets of legal work, including writing briefs, preparing court documents, participating in depositions, hearings and trials, and interacting with clients.

Externs work a minimum of 60 hours per unit of credit. Up to 3 units of credit may be earned. Students interested in the externship may choose any area of the law that interests them.
