UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program

UCLA Health Nursing Summer Externship Program offers work experience to nursing students who have completed their junior year and are entering their senior year of nursing school. The externship is unpaid. Externships are offered during the summer and take place at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and The Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. Applicants can choose two specialty areas for their externship. The externship is designed to help nursing students choose a career path in nursing.

North Shore-LIJ Health System Psychology Externships

North Shore-LIJ Health System Psychology Externships are offered to students enrolled in doctoral graduate psychology studies or for those who have completed their doctoral studies. The externships are part-time, unpaid positions. Up to 35 students are chosen every year to participate in externships in clinical psychology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Zucker Hillside Hospital in New York. Externships are 12 months long and focus on clinical and research activities. Several different externships are available. They may focus on adult psychology, child and adolescent psychology, trauma psychology and others.

Kaplan College Dallas Physical Therapist Externships

Kaplan College Dallas currently has four externship opportunities for students in the area of Physical Therapy. Each of the four externships are designed to provide students with practical on-the-job clinical experience that will give them an opportunity to use their classroom knowledge in a real, professional environment. Externships vary in levels and include Assistant Clinical I, II and III, and Assistant Final Clinical Practicum. Assistant Clinical I, II and III require students to complete a 90-hour clinical at an affiliate site that provides physical therapy services. Assistant Final Clinical Practicum requires a 360-hour clinical.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Nursing Externships

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Nursing Externships are paid work experience opportunities offered to nursing students at Jefferson University Hospital. Orientations are held every month. Eligible students must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and have completed one semester of hospital medical or surgical clinical experience before applying. Nursing externs are temporary, part-time positions that give nursing students real-life experience in the nursing field.

Indian Health Service Extern Program

Indian Health Service Extern Program offers paid externships for college students preparing for careers in the health profession. Priority is given to health profession students who are American Indian or Alaska Native.  The externship includes a salary that is based on each student's experience and level of training. Eligible students must be pursuing a degree in the health care industry and have a grade point average of 2.0 or above.

Children's National Health System Externships

Children's National Health System Externships accepts applications on an ongoing basis. Eligible students include those pursuing careers in pediatric neuropsychology. Externships are 12 months long. Externs will work 16 hours a week. Their work will include assessing children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and will be in the Division of Pediatric Neuropsychology.

Internal Medicine Medical Student Externship

Internal Medicine Medical Student Externship is offered to medical students pursuing careers in internal medicine. It is for fourth year medical students only. The externship is offered at the Methodist Health System in Dallas, Texas. Eligible students are those who are currently attending medical school in the U.S. or Canada. The externship consists of four week block rotations. Externs will receive excellent training in the management of inpatients and some outpatient.

The Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Externship Program

The Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Externship Program is for students interested in a career in the medical care of horses. Students must have an interest in equine veterinary medicine and be third and fourth year veterinary students or graduate veterinarians. Several different externships are offered to meet the interests of many students. It can include field care, medicine, surgery, sport horse treatment, reproduction and fertility. Students will gain real-world experience in their equine specialty field and work with some of the most valued horses in the world.

Pacific Dental Services Externships

Pacific Dental Services Externships are available to all dental assistant students currently attending ADA-accredited dental schools. The externship is available in several states where Pacific Dental has affiliated offices.  Externs will receive hands-on experience in preparing and maintaining instruments, equipment, and materials for dental procedures. They will assist in dental procedures and be supervised by experienced dentists and hygienists. The experience will help students prepare for a career in dental assistance and gain valuable skills that will be required for licensing.

Externships are offered at various clinical training sites around the country. Eligible dental students must be currently enrolled in an ADA-Accredited Dental School which is among those affiliated with Lutheran Medical Center. The Tuxedo Club Culinary Externship Program

The Tuxedo Club Culinary Externship Program offers an exciting hands-on work experience near Metropolitan New York City for culinary students. The externship includes a stipend, room-and-board and meals. The 18-week program runs from April through October and provides culinary students with an exceptional training experience at one of the most prestigious private clubs in the world. Externs will be taught by an Executive Chef and work in state-of-the-art kitchens preparing hot and cold foods, appetizers, desserts, and learning how to cook for banquets and catering events.

American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) Externship Opportunities

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship Opportunities are available to dental students to help prepare them for careers as dental surgeons. Students must be currently attending accredited dental schools in the U.S. Most externships require that students be in their junior or senior year of dental school in order to apply. Externships are 1-4 weeks in length. Externs will be able to assist oral and maxillofacial residents with surgery and other procedures as well as attend conferences, seminars and other training opportunities.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Externships are for nursing students currently enrolled in a BSN program. Externships give students a chance to increase their skill set and prepare for a career in nursing. Externs will work in one of the world’s largest academic medical centers. They will work with physicians, allied professionals and other nurses in an environment where they can exchange ideas and increase their medical knowledge. Positions are offered as a Nursing Attendant, Nursing Companion or Summer Nurse Externship. All are part-time nursing positions for nursing students.

Jefferson University Hospital Nursing Externships

Nursing Externships offer nursing students a paid work opportunity to learn from professional nursing staff. Externships are offered throughout the year. Students must have completed one semester of hospital medical/surgical clinical experience. Externships are temporary, part-time positions. Externs work every other weekend during the school year that includes two eight-hour shifts. During the summer, externs work two eight-hour shifts during the day, evening, or night.

The externship offers a paid opportunity for nursing students to learn more about their career while still in college. Externs will be guided and mentored by a nurse preceptor. The three and a half month program places students in the courts to observe trials and legal proceedings in action. The program was designed to help law students be more competitive when looking for a job after graduation. Medical Student Summer Clinical Externship (MSSCE)

Medical Student Summer Clinical Externship (MSSCE) is for medical students who want a clinical work experience in the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R). The externship gives students an opportunity to explore a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical areas of patient care. The externship is eight weeks in length. Applicants must be currently attending American allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. Each extern will have a mentor who is a clinician-educator. Only one or two students per site are chosen for an externship.

Mercy Health Muskegon Externship

Flexible schedules are available to meet the needs of medical students. Externs will gain hands-on experience in many clinical areas. These include family and internal medicine, general and urological surgery, radiology, pathology, pediatrics, oncology, hematology, cardiology, anesthesiology, OB/GYN, and more.

Children's National Health System Externship Training Programs

Children's National Health System Externship Training Programs offer clinical externships for medical students in various areas of childhood treatment. Externship opportunities are available in autism, neuropsychology and psychology. The externships are for students who are in their third year of medical school or beyond, who have completed their assessment coursework, and who have had prior externship experience with testing, and direct clinical experience with children. Externs will participate in doing testing, evaluating test results, forming diagnoses, and providing feedback to parents. The on-the-job training will prepare students for careers in autism, neuropsychology and psychology in treating children.

Adventist Health System Medical Externships

Adventist Health System Medical Externships are offered to first-year medical students to give them an opportunity to explore career choices in the field of medicine. The two-week program includes a stipend. Students must be currently attending a school that is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the organization responsible for accrediting medical education programs leading to an MD degree in the United States and Canada. The externship includes transportation to and from the externship location, lodging and meals, and a weekly stipend.

Animal Medical Center Externships

Animal Medical Center Externships are available to veterinary students who are in their third or fourth year of veterinary school. Eligible students must be in good academic standing at an AVMA accredited school of Veterinary Medicine. The externship is a shadowing or observational opportunity for students to learn about veterinary hospital care policies and procedures. The externship includes lectures, medical rounds and continuing education seminars. Externs will also be able to see experienced veterinarians at work in delivering veterinary services such as critical care and emergency, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, pathology, rehabilitation and surgery.

New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association Externships

New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA) Externships are offered during the summer for veterinary students in New Jersey. The program includes a stipend and externship opportunities for up to ten students each year. Externs will work with experienced veterinarians and receive supervision as well as training and hands-on experience. Students interested in applying for the program must be in good standing on their clinical rotations. Externs must be sponsored by a NJVMA member veterinarian.

Fairfield Equine Externships

Fairfield Equine Externships are available to senior veterinary students with a strong interest in equine practice. Students must be planning a career in private practice in the performance horse industry. Interested students must be senior veterinary students in their clinical year of study at veterinary school. The externship lasts 2-4 weeks and is generally offered during the months of April through November.

Rex Healthcare Nursing Externships

Rex Healthcare Nursing Externships are available to nursing students who are entering their senior year of nursing school. All applicants must have a Nurse Aide II certification before beginning their externship. The externship is a 10-week work program that gives nursing students practical experience in a hospital environment. Externs will receive general, clinical, computer and new nurse orientation followed by work shadowing and other opportunities that will enhance their classroom learning and teach them valuable new skills.

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Externships

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute Externships are open to veterinary students pursuing careers in equine veterinary medicine. The program is primarily for third and fourth year veterinary students or graduate veterinarians, but other veterinary students may apply. Externships are offered during the months of February through May and range from one week to one month in duration. Students will learn from experienced veterinarians and receive hands-on training in caring for some of the most valuable racing and breeding horses in the world.

Main Line Health Professional Nursing Externship Program

Main Line Health Professional Nursing Externship Program offers a paid, hands-on work experience for nursing students. Eligible students must be enrolled in an accredited BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) program and have completed at least one clinical rotation before applying. The Professional Nursing Externship Program gives nursing students an opportunity to gain more experience in patient care. It also helps students better prepare for the clinical setting in which they will be working after graduation. Working in an actual clinical environment will help strengthen their clinical skills.

Lancaster General Health Student Externship

Lancaster General Health Student Externship is a summer work experience for students interested in a professional nursing career. Externships take place at Lancaster General Health in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The externship program is eight weeks long during which students work and observe patient care and health procedures at two different sites. Externs will enhance their clinical experience by working with a registered nurse in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Students will be guided by a Nursing Educator throughout their externship program.

Cook Children's Nursing Externship Program

Cook Children's Nursing Externship Program is a 10-week work experience program for nursing students pursuing careers in pediatrics. The externship includes clinical experience and classroom activities that will increase both knowledge and skills in nursing. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BSN program. A grade point average of 3.0 or above is required; students also must have completed two clinical courses before applying. Externships take place during the summer from the middle of May through the end of June.

Johns Hopkins Clinical Nurse Externships

Johns Hopkins Clinical Nurse Externships are offered to nursing students who have completed at least one clinical practicum in an acute-care hospital. The externship includes pay and an opportunity to gain more hands-on experience in performing patient care duties. Applicants must be willing to work at least one shift a week during the school semester. To be eligible to apply, nursing students must have completed their nursing school course work as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing and obtain their CNA certification two weeks prior to the start of the externship.

Christiana Care Health System Student Nurse Externships

Christiana Care Health System Student Nurse Externships are offered to students enrolled in a nursing program and pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse. Students interested in applying must have completed at least one clinical rotation in an acute care setting. Student Nurse Externs work 16 hours bi-weekly and must also be available to work different shifts, holidays and weekends if necessary. The work environment is casual and the work schedules are flexible so students can continue uninterrupted with their studies.

Penn State Hershey Student Nurse Externships

Penn State Hershey Student Nurse Externships are ten-week programs for nursing students entering their senior year. The externships give nursing students an opportunity to work directly with the nursing team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. This paid externship is offered during the summer. Up to 35 qualified students will be hired. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of 3.0 or above and be in their senior year of nursing school. The externships are full-time and provide nursing experience in the areas of Patient Care Assistant and Patient Sitter.

Oregon Tax Court Externships

Oregon Tax Court Externships are offered to both law students and paralegal students who have completed at least one full year (law) or half (paralegal) of their schooling. Externships are available in the Spring, Summer and Fall for law students and throughout the year for paralegals. Law student externships are 13 weeks during which students will work in the courts on tax matters. Externs will work up to 40 hours per week. Eligible law students must be self-starters with excellent research and writing skills, as well as a strong attention to detail.

IRS Legal Externships

IRS Legal Externships are offered to law students who are about to graduate or have already graduated from law school. This program is a non-paid, volunteer externship. Externship applications are accepted throughout the year. Eligible students must be in good standing with their law school and be enrolled in a law school that is accredited by the American Bar Association. Externs will have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and learn from Chief Counsel attorneys.

Washtenaw County Medical Society Externship Program

Washtenaw County Medical Society Externship Program is for undergraduate students pursing careers in the field of medicine. It is open to students in Washtenaw and other counties in Michigan. Eligible students may major in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, and psychology. Externs will receive mentoring from practicing physicians. The work will take place at a physician's office, at a clinic or other health facility.

Foreign Medical Graduate U.S. Externships

Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) U.S. Externships offer foreign medical students a hands-on clinical program that matches residency program requirements. It fills the experience requirement for students when they apply for a residency. The externship is different than just observing. Externships provide real, hands-on work experience for medical students. Externs will work with an attending physician and perform clinical duties such as assessing patient histories and performing physical examinations. All extern duties are done at a hospital under the supervision of a U.S. licensed attending physician.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Summer Student Nurse Tech Program

Summer Student Nurse Tech Program is open to nursing students throughout the U.S. The paid work experience program takes place during the summer and gives nursing students an opportunity to gain skills that will be valuable to their nursing career. The program is held every summer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The program lasts 10 weeks during which students will be trained for a career as a Nurse Tech. Every year about 50 nursing students from around the country are accepted into the program which includes educational sessions from all areas of specialty.
